Starting in 2001 with a joint sensor development project alongside Siemens, Symeo’s journey began by establishing a technical foundation. In 2005, the company was incorporated in Neubiberg near Munich, its market entry confirmed. A year later, the team unveiled its first standardized 5.8 GHz radar sensor for distance measurement. By 2010, Symeo had enabled major projects in world ports and the steel industry, setting benchmarks for reliability and future readiness.

Symeo Expands Radar Portfolio Across Multiple Bands and MIMO

Over the years, Symeo expanded its radar sensor lineup beyond its initial offering, introducing 24 GHz and 61 GHz units as well as a multi-channel MIMO radar system. The company has filed more than 120 patent applications, illustrating its commitment to innovation. After joining Analog Devices in 2018 and indie Inc. in 2022, Symeo unveiled its first 120 GHz sensor in 2023 and recently revealed a high-resolution imaging radar concept.

Symeo’s Rugged Radar Technology Thrives in Harsh Industrial Environments

Symeos rugged radar sensors deliver reliable performance in extreme conditions, including dust, moisture and temperature fluctuations. They accurately detect vehicles and shipping containers at the Port of Hamburg, enabling logistics and tracking. At voestalpine AG steelworks, these sensors prevent collisions by monitoring crane and trolley movements in real time. In mining operations and bulk material handling, Symeo radar provides precise distance measurement, ensuring stable processes, loading cycles and operational safety.

Symeos LPR-SAFE Earns EN ISO 13849 PLd Functional Safety

In 2025, Symeo places functional safety at the core of its industrial radar offerings with the introduction of LPR-SAFE, marking the first radar solution certified to meet EN ISO 13849 PLd requirements. This forthcoming certification ensures adherence to the most stringent safety standards, providing customers with traceable and dependable protective measures. By pioneering this advanced safety architecture, Symeo unlocks new possibilities within sectors where machines and equipment demand guard functions.

Symeo Radar Secured Helicopter Landings And Enhanced Container Logistics

Dr. Peter Gulden, Director of Symeo GmbH, highlights that over the past twenty years radar systems have supported helicopter landings, accelerated container logistics in ports and delivered accurate measurements in Mongolias icy mining sites. Combining high-resolution imaging with advanced sensor fusion, Symeo intends to drive digital transformation further. Through partnerships and innovation, the company commits to delivering solutions that enhance safety, operational efficiency and intelligent process control in demanding industrial applications.
