Sustainable Plastic Packaging: CERATIZIT’s Mission for a Greener Future

0

CERATIZIT, a leading manufacturer of high-quality tools, has developed a scientifically grounded sustainability strategy that extends to its packaging. The company focuses on the circularity of the packaging and reducing the CO2 footprint. By using recycled materials, CERATIZIT is able to create high-quality packaging that serves as true CO2 savers. This commitment to sustainability reflects the company’s obligation and mission to incorporate sustainable practices into every aspect of its operations, including packaging.

CERATIZIT’s Sustainable Packaging: Rethinking the Negative Perception of Plastic

CERATIZIT has developed a concept for sustainable packaging that addresses the negative associations of plastic packaging. The company has examined and evaluated the circularity, design, packaging material, and recyclability of their packaging. By prioritizing these factors, CERATIZIT aims to create packaging that is environmentally friendly and minimizes its impact on the planet. This approach demonstrates the company’s commitment to finding innovative solutions to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainability.

The selection of a sustainable packaging material is determined by the CO2 emissions generated during its production and recycling. The recycling capability is assessed based on Germany’s recycling infrastructure, ensuring that the packaging can be easily recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy.

Recycled Plastic: Transforming Household Waste into New Products

Recycled plastic from private households is sorted, crushed, and processed using various methods to create new products. In addition to plastic collected from private households, plastic from the industry is also used. This type of plastic is easy to recycle due to its purity and low level of contamination. Through the sorting and processing of recycled plastic, valuable resources are conserved and new products are created, contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy.

The rose plastic AG, a partner of CERATIZIT, utilizes these granulates to produce recyclable packaging. The company exclusively employs recyclable plastics, resulting in an internal recycling rate of almost 100 percent. The products are on par with conventional petroleum-based materials.

Optimal protection and resource savings through innovative packaging solutions

The primary function of packaging is to provide optimal protection for products during transportation and storage. At CERATIZIT, all tools are effectively safeguarded using rose Plastic packaging solutions. These packages are designed to be extremely sturdy yet compact and lightweight, saving space and fuel. By incorporating intelligent features such as adjustable mechanisms to accommodate different tool lengths and variable compartment divisions to securely store turning inserts, valuable resources are conserved.

Immediate Benefits of Using Recycled Plastic: Energy and CO2 Reductions

The use of recycled plastic immediately leads to quantifiable benefits. For instance, the production of traditional PET requires twice as much energy as recycling it. Additionally, recycling plastic results in 75% less CO2 emissions compared to using conventional granules. Recycled plastic can also be reused multiple times, depending on the purity of the material.

CERATIZIT aims to recycle 55% of its plastic packaging by 2030. In 2021, over 6.3 million plastic packages weighing approximately 58.6 tons were produced. By using recycled plastic packaging, approximately 226 tons of CO2 emissions can be saved per year compared to conventional plastic, resulting in a reduction of at least 60% in CO2 emissions. This transition is another step towards achieving CERATIZIT’s ambitious short- and long-term emission reduction goals, including climate neutrality by 2025, a combined 60% reduction in Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2030, and net-zero emissions by 2040 with a combined 75% reduction in Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

Sustainable plastic packaging offers numerous benefits, such as reducing CO2 emissions and conserving valuable resources. CERATIZIT’s packaging solutions not only provide optimal protection for high-quality tools but also contribute to the company’s ambitious sustainability goals. With an internal recycling rate of nearly 100% and a minimum 60% reduction in CO2 emissions, CERATIZIT’s packaging sets an example for sustainable practices in the plastic industry.
