Automated Zip-Screens Shield Marc Schlagheckes Penthouse From Summer Heat
Spanning 235 m2, Marc Schlagheckes penthouse features exposed concrete finishes, floor-to-ceiling glazing and a striking metal facade. To prevent unwanted visibility and summer overheating, 52 customized Zip-Screens shield the top floor and terrace. Occupants manage sun protection fully automatically via the SELVE Home 3 system integrated with commeos wireless technology without manual intervention. Analyzing weather data and ambient light levels, the system optimizes overall comfort, energy efficiency and home security.
Hunter Douglas Zip-Screens Driven by 600 SE Plus-RC Motors
The custom-engineered Zip Screens were supplied by Dutch specialist Schellekens & Schellekens (Hunter Douglas), a SELVE partner. Each set of blinds is powered by SELVEs SE Plus-RC radio-controlled universal drive units, manufactured in Lüdenscheid. Across the residential complex, around 600 SELVE motors operate seamlessly to shield interiors. The SE Plus-RC modules deliver robust torque and quiet performance, and their design enables integration into both retrofit and new automated shading projects.
SELVE Home Server 3 upgrade introduces dual smart controllers
Upgrading from Home Server 2 to SELVE Home Server 3 introduced two intelligent control units to the penthouse, one per floor ensuring robust signal coverage. Featuring the Matter standard, the SHS 3 enables seamless cross-brand integration for diverse smart devices. Initial setup is streamlined using QR code scanning and Bluetooth pairing, reducing installation complexity. In collaboration with SELVEs Benelux manager Oliver Rentmeister and Zonweringvakmans Dennis Blokland, technicians configured the system. The free SELVE Home 3 app allows intuitive grouping and scene creation.
SELVE Home 3 app enables remote penthouse blind control
With the SELVE Home 3 app, the Schlaghecke family controls their screens based on sunrise and sunset, scheduled settings, or manual input?remotely from any location. Matter compatibility provides seamless voice commands via Google Home. Key advantages include improved energy efficiency, automated presence simulation, and heightened security through remote access. commeo handheld transmitters enable channel-based group operation for up to five adjacent screens. Every function is customizable, ensuring smart penthouse living.
Commeo solar and wind sensors automate Penthouse Zip-Screen regulation
In future the Schlaghecke household plans to integrate commeo sun and wind sensors. These modules measure irradiance and wind speed, sending threshold values to the SELVE Home Server 3. The SHS 3 then autonomously adjusts zip-screen positions based on real-time data. Thanks to the Matter protocol new components join via app pairing and adhere to custom automation rules. This seamless process enhances comfort, safety and energy efficiency through environmental regulation.
SELVE Home 3 and SE Plus-RC enable sun shading
SELVE Home 3 integrates with SE Plus-RC motors, Matter protocol, and commeo modules to provide a comprehensive smart shading system for the Amsterdam duplex penthouse. Automated schedules adjust zip screens based on daylight and weather data, while setup via QR code, Bluetooth, or Google Home voice commands enables quick commissioning. App-based control delivers energy efficiency and security, and the architecture supports expansion with sun and wind sensors for autonomous protection.
