CGR B-E GmbH successfully meets automotive industry’s production challenges

The production of mechatronic connectors for electric vehicles is a highly complex task that requires meeting the high efficiency demands of the automotive industry. CGR B-E GmbH in Mettmann has successfully overcome this challenge by implementing nine Yaskawa handling robots. The automotive supplier industry is facing the challenge of producing faster and more cost-effectively, particularly in Germany. The increasing demand for mechatronic components in electric vehicles further intensifies the pressure.

CGR successfully implements innovative automation solution for connector production

CGR in Mettmann has successfully implemented a cutting-edge automation solution for the production of connectors for electronic steering systems. This process involves pre-assembling the connectors and then molding them with plastic using the injection molding technique. The production process demands precision, adheres to the highest safety standards, and requires flexibility to accommodate three different connector models with three contact types each.

MSA and CGR develop fully automated production process

The MSA Vorrichtungsbau GmbH, in collaboration with CGR, has successfully developed a highly automated system to tackle the manufacturing challenge. The process involves three stages: pre-assembly, injection molding, and finishing/quality control. This entire process is fully automated and operated by nine Yaskawa Motoman GP-series robots, known for their exceptional precision and repeatability. These robots have proven to be the perfect solution for CGR, ensuring the production of high-quality components.

Efficient production of mechatronic connectors achieved with robotic automation

The facility enables the rapid production of four components in just 37.5 seconds, with a total capacity of approximately 1.92 million connectors. Thanks to the robots, the facility can be reconfigured for a new connector type in just four hours. The extremely fast cycle times and the complex combination of multiple work steps pose a technical challenge that MSA has successfully overcome.
