The largest German-language congress for electronics and microsystems, taking place in Dresden from October 23rd to 25th, 2023, focuses on sustainability and technological sovereignty. At the joint booth of the Research Factory for Microelectronics (FMD) on level 5, booth 14, Fraunhofer IZM presents potential solutions for resource-efficient microsystems.

Growing global demand for semiconductors highlights importance of supply chain in electronics industry

The increasing global demand for semiconductors highlights the importance of an intact value chain for the electronics industry. In addition to semiconductor availability, other topics are gaining prominence in the context of global digitization. The MST Congress this year focuses on technological sovereignty and trustworthiness in microelectronics (“Trusted Electronics”), sustainability aspects (“Green ICT”), and next-generation computing. Alongside the technical presentations, there will be a specialized exhibition at the Maritim Congress Center Dresden, where Fraunhofer IZM will showcase various solutions for resource efficiency and trustworthy, sustainable electronics.

Glass-based high-frequency technology for competitive radar sensors

In order to maintain competitiveness in radar sensor technology in the face of stricter environmental requirements, glass-based high-frequency technologies offer a promising solution. Through the BMBF-funded project “GlaRA,” Fraunhofer IZM, in collaboration with an international consortium, has developed radar sensors for industrial and process measurement technology. Visitors to the congress have the opportunity to test the next generation of glass interposer technology at the Fraunhofer IZM booth. Additionally, the conference presentation by experts from Fraunhofer IZM and the Technical University of Berlin on Wednesday, October 25th at 2 pm will provide further insights into the challenges of photonic packaging for integrated circuits on glass interposers.

Protecting the entire value chain: Access memory as a defense against cyber attacks

The BMBF-funded project “SiEvEI 4.0” showcases how access memory can protect the entire value chain from third-party attacks in an engaging explanatory video. By implementing “Smart Secure Systems” (SSI), the sensor platform enables the networking of production facilities and the digitization of business processes, thereby contributing to more trustworthy electronics. Visitors can learn more and engage with experts at the Fraunhofer IZM booth.

Fraunhofer IZM showcases sustainable solutions for resource efficiency

The sustainability experts at Fraunhofer IZM are developing cost and environmental models, conducting holistic environmental assessments, and devising strategies to extend the use and reuse of critical resources in high-tech products. This expertise is being utilized in the cross-site BMBF-funded competence center “Green ICT @ FMD” to collaborate with other stakeholders in developing offerings and solutions for resource consciousness in the industry in Germany and Europe. Visitors to the Fraunhofer IZM booth will gain comprehensive insights into the energy and resource consumption of information and communication technology up to the year 2035.

MST Congress showcases sustainable and sovereign electronics

The MST Congress serves as an excellent platform to emphasize the importance of sustainability and technological sovereignty in the electronics industry. At the joint booth of the Microelectronics Research Factory, Fraunhofer IZM presents innovative solutions that contribute to greater resource efficiency and more trustworthy electronics. Highlights of the congress include discussions on the future viability of glass interposer technology in radar sensors, the protection of the value chain through trusted electronics for Industry 4.0, and the competence center for resource awareness. Visitors have the opportunity to gain comprehensive information and engage in discussions with experts on-site. The MST Congress in Dresden offers valuable insights into forward-thinking technologies and solutions for a sustainable and technologically sovereign electronics industry.
