RWE Supply & Trading and npower Business Solutions (nBS) have signed an agreement to collaborate on green power purchase agreements (PPAs). This partnership aims to offer nBS customers access to one of the largest and continuously expanding renewable energy portfolios in the UK. For RWE, this partnership provides an additional market access for their green power generation. Moreover, nBS customers benefit from the expertise of an international electricity trading company.

RWE is the leading electricity generator in the UK

RWE, the leading power producer in the UK, is responsible for generating approximately 15% of the country’s total electricity demand. With a diverse portfolio of onshore and offshore wind farms, hydropower, biomass, and gas power plants, RWE has an installed capacity of around 10 gigawatts (GW), which is enough to meet the electricity needs of approximately 14 million British households. The company is committed to investing up to £15 billion in new green technologies and infrastructure by 2030, making it one of the largest renewable energy producers in the country.

nBS, a subsidiary of the E.ON Group, is the largest energy supplier for businesses in the United Kingdom. With the ability to offer companies power purchase agreements from a leading international electricity trading company, nBS aims to meet the increasing demand for carbon-free energy. According to a survey conducted by nBS, one-third of companies are planning to include a PPA as part of their decarbonization strategy this year. Through the partnership with RWE, nBS customers now have access to an established renewable portfolio in the UK, allowing them to meet the growing demand for green energy.

RWE is a major player in the UK wind energy sector, with a total capacity of over 2.6 GW. This includes 10 offshore and 33 onshore wind parks. The company is also planning to build more offshore and floating wind parks, including projects in the Celtic Sea. With one of the largest offshore wind pipelines in the country, RWE is committed to expanding its presence in renewable energy and contributing to the UK’s clean energy transition.

RWE is actively pursuing ambitious plans in the onshore wind energy sector, with ongoing development of onshore wind farms in Wales and Scotland with a combined capacity of approximately 2 GW. Additionally, RWE is making significant investments in solar energy, having acquired JBM Solar in March 2023, which provides RWE with a mature pipeline of projects totaling around 6.1 GWac. This includes 3.8 GWac in solar projects and 2.3 GWac in battery storage projects.

The collaboration between RWE Supply & Trading and npower Business Solutions offers nBS customers the opportunity to benefit from RWE’s extensive experience and expertise in green power generation. This partnership enables RWE and nBS to expand their market reach and meet the growing demand for renewable energy. By leveraging RWE’s knowledge and resources, nBS customers can access a wide range of sustainable energy solutions, supporting their own sustainability goals and contributing to the achievement of climate targets.
